Invited Faculty - Jose Medina

Prof Medina is full professor of nephrology and head of the kidney and pancreas transplant program of the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP). He is also the president of the Institutional Review Board of UNIFESP and has been involved in the development of graduation and post graduation courses. He served as the clinical director of the University Hospital (Hospital São Paulo) and currently is the superintendent of The Kidney Hospital.
Prof Medina's career began as a medical student at the Federal University of São Paulo. After concluding his nephrology training program he was appointed head of the kidney transplant program. After concluding his PhD, he went to Cleveland Clinic Foundation for a clinical fellow training and then to Nuffield Department of Surgery, at Oxford University for a basic science training program.
Prof Medina has dedicated his last 25 years teaching and mentoring undergraduate students, residents and postgraduate fellows. He has published more than 200 manuscripts in peer review journals. He has also been deeply involved in the development of one of the largest government funded nationa deceased organ transplant program. As president of the Brazilian Society for Organ Transplantation (currently in his second term), professor Medina is now applying his large experience to assist organ procurement organizations and transplant centers throughout the country, working together with the Brazilian government.
